Eligibility — HP SET 2026
Educational Qualifications
- Candidates must hold a Master's Degree or equivalent from a University/Institution recognized by the UGC.
- General Category / Unreserved / EWS: Minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master's Degree.
- Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC Non-Creamy Layer/PwBD of HP): Minimum 50% marks.
- Final-year Master's students awaiting results may apply provisionally, provided they complete the degree with the required marks within the stipulated period after the SET result.
- Ph.D. holders whose Master's degree was completed by 19‑09‑1991 are eligible for relaxation in marks as per UGC regulations.
- Candidates must appear in the subject of their post-graduation as listed in the HP SET syllabus.
Age, Nationality & Other Conditions
- Age Limit: Minimum 18 years. There is no upper age limit for HP SET 2026.
- Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.
- Applicants from reserved categories outside Himachal Pradesh will be treated under the general category for eligibility and certification purposes.
- HP SET qualified candidates prior to 01‑06‑2002 are eligible nationwide; those qualified after this date are eligible for recruitment as Assistant Professors in Himachal Pradesh colleges/universities where they passed SET.
Note: Fulfillment of eligibility criteria is mandatory to apply for HP SET 2026. Candidates must consult the official notification for complete guidelines, including required documents, deadlines, and subject-wise eligibility.
Exam Pattern — HP SET 2026
The Himachal Pradesh State Eligibility Test (HP SET) 2026 will be conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC). The exam consists of two papers designed to assess a candidate's teaching aptitude and subject-specific knowledge. Candidates should refer to the official notification for detailed information.
- Exam Mode: Offline (Pen and Paper)
- Number of Papers: 2 (Paper I & Paper II)
- Total Marks: 300 (Paper I: 100, Paper II: 200)
- Total Duration: 3 Hours (Paper I: 1 Hour, Paper II: 2 Hours)
- Medium of Exam: English & Hindi (except language-specific papers)
- Negative Marking: Not applicable
Paper I — General Awareness & Teaching Aptitude
- Question Type: Objective MCQs
- Total Questions: 50
- Total Marks: 100
- Duration: 1 Hour
- Focus Areas: General awareness, teaching aptitude, reasoning, and analytical skills relevant to higher education.
Paper II — Subject-Specific Knowledge
- Question Type: Objective MCQs
- Total Questions: 100
- Total Marks: 200
- Duration: 2 Hours
- Content: Questions based on the candidate's selected subject as per the HP SET syllabus.
