Greetings and regards from Bansal Academy! Thank you for reaching out with your query about the difficulty level of CSIR-JRF. We appreciate your interest in our coaching services, and our team is here to provide you with valuable insights.
Most of the answers here are showing that it is very tough examination but in reality the examination is nothing more than a conceptual brainstorming to judge your fitness for being a better researcher. Now how tough is the exam to crack? It is not tough enough to be invincible. You may crack the exam in your first attempt if you dedicate 3–4 months for the preparation and this is without joining any coaching. Its not the coaching which matters most, its your way of preparation which matters most to crack such examination. If you have seen the cut off of exams it goes near to 60% of total mark (120/200) and topper gets 70–80% marks. So you should make such strategy which could make you earn marks in between 60–80%. Now how to prepare for exams. Section-A: Its a general awareness type of paper and they ask you to attempt any 15 question out of 20 questions and on the lowest if you could attempt 10 questions its more than sufficient but i would say a little preparation each day (solving 15 questions each day for 90 days ) make you able to crack all 15 questions and will provide you min 20 (attempted 10) or 30 (if attempted all) . Section-B it contains questions related to your particular field and mostly are subjective enough to attempt irf you have read the chapter or topic clearly only single time. they ask you to attempt any 35 questions out of 50. If you are able to attempt only 25 questions (50% of given questions) you could get 50 marks in this section. Now lets move on C-section, which is the most dangerous section because this section contains questions which judges your analytical and research abilities. every question gives you four mark and if you have done wrong 1 mark get deducted. there are total 75 questions and they ask you to attempt any 25 (1/3 of given). I will say you to attempt only 18 questions (less than 25% of given questions) and if you could give one hour to this section from 3 hours you could easily find 10 questions easy enough to answer in one go and 8 moderate questions which will require a little bit pondering. If everything goes correct you will get 72 marks. means at the end of paper you achieved 20+50+72= 142 marks and if your prepared for exam being dedicated enough i hope you will not go for minus marking beyond 5% but lets calculate for 10% so section A will have two wrong questions means 16–1=15 marks Section-B 5 wrong questions= 40–2.5= 37.5marks Section C 2 wrong questions=64–2=62 marks total=114.5 which is more enough to make you a successful CSIR JRF aspirant.
