CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria Age Limit & Minimum Qualification for JRF/LS

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine the eligibility of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship (LS) in various science subjects.   1. Educational Qualifications:

  2. Minimum Percentage Requirement:

    • A general requirement is that candidates should have obtained at least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent grade in their qualifying master’s degree. However, certain universities may have specific percentage criteria, and candidates are advised to check the official notification for any variations.
  3. Relaxation for Reserved Categories:

    • Relaxation in the minimum qualifying criteria is provided for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories. The specific percentage relaxations are mentioned in the official CSIR NET notification. Candidates should carefully review the eligibility criteria to understand the applicable relaxations.
  4. Age Limit for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):

    • The upper age limit for JRF is generally 28 years. However, there is age relaxation for candidates from reserved categories. the relaxation is up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/PwD and female candidates.
  5. No Upper Age Limit for Lectureship (LS):

    • For the Lectureship (LS) category, there is no upper age limit. Candidates of any age can apply for LS, provided they meet the educational qualifications and other eligibility criteria.
  6. Nationality:

    • Candidates must be Indian citizens to be eligible for CSIR NET. There is no provision for foreign nationals to apply for JRF or LS through CSIR NET.
  7. Number of Attempts:

    • There is no fixed limit on the number of attempts a candidate can make for CSIR NET. As long as candidates meet the eligibility criteria, they can apply for the examination multiple times.
  8. Valid Certification for Lectureship (LS):

    • Candidates who qualify for LS are awarded a certificate that remains valid for a specified period. The certificate is issued to candidates based on their performance in the CSIR NET examination.
