Are you curious about how marks are calculated for the CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Eligibility Test) exam? Let us provide you with valuable insights into the marking scheme used in this prestigious examination.
1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs):
- CSIR NET exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in which candidates are required to select the correct answer from the options provided.
- Each correct answer is awarded a certain number of marks, while incorrect answers may result in negative marking.
2. Marking Scheme:
- For each correct answer in Part A (General Aptitude) and Part B (Subject-specific), candidates are awarded +2 marks.
- In Part C (Subject-specific), where analytical and mathematical questions are asked, each correct answer is awarded +4 marks.
- Negative marking is applicable for incorrect answers in Part A and Part B. For every incorrect answer, 1/4th of the allotted marks for that question are deducted as a penalty.
- There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in Part C.
3. Calculation of Total Marks:
- Total marks obtained by a candidate in the CSIR NET exam are calculated based on the number of correct and incorrect answers.
- The total marks are computed by adding the marks obtained in all sections (Part A, Part B, and Part C) of the exam.
- Negative marks, if any, due to incorrect answers in Part A and Part B, are subtracted from the total marks obtained.
4. Cut-off Marks and Qualification:
- CSIR NET has a minimum qualifying cut-off percentage for each subject and category (General, OBC, SC/ST, PwD).
- Candidates must secure the minimum cut-off percentage and meet other eligibility criteria to qualify the exam and become eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Lectureship (LS).
