The Joint CSIR-UGC NET is conducted to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor positions in Indian universities and colleges, adhering to UGC’s eligibility criteria. The test is conducted online twice a year, inviting applications from eligible Indian nationals on an all-India basis through Press Notifications.

Fellowship Benefits:

  • Selected JRFs receive a stipend of Rs. 31,000/- per month for the first two years, along with an annual contingent grant of Rs. 20,000/- per fellow to the University/Institution.
  • After two years, JRFs registered for Ph.D. are upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) (NET) with a stipend of Rs. 35,000/- per month for the 3rd and subsequent years, subject to assessment of research progress/achievements by an Expert Committee.

Fellowship Tenure and Upgradation:

  • The Joint CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship is for a fixed tenure and does not guarantee subsequent employment by CSIR-UGC NET.
  • The progress of JRFs is assessed at the end of the third year for potential upgradation to SRF, subject to satisfactory research progress and achievements.
