Greetings from Bansal Academy!
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) primarily focuses on assessing the understanding and proficiency of candidates in various engineering and science subjects. However, candidates with non-engineering backgrounds are also eligible to appear for GATE, and their assessment is based on the following principles:
Choice of Subjects:
GATE allows candidates to choose subjects that are not exclusively engineering-based. There are certain science subjects, such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, that candidates with non-engineering backgrounds can opt for. Each subject has its own syllabus, and candidates are evaluated based on their knowledge of the chosen subject.
Subject-Specific Syllabus:
Subject-Specific Questions:
The GATE question paper is designed to test candidates on their understanding of the subject they have chosen. Questions are framed to assess their knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and application of concepts within the chosen subject.
Common General Aptitude Section:
In addition to the subject-specific section, GATE includes a Common General Aptitude (GA) section. This section assesses candidates' mathematical and verbal aptitude. It is common for all GATE papers, irrespective of the subject chosen.
Scoring and Normalization:
Preparation Strategies:
Candidates with non-engineering backgrounds are advised to focus on understanding the subject-specific syllabus thoroughly. They may need to invest additional effort in core engineering concepts covered in their chosen subject. Additionally, practicing previous years' question papers and taking mock tests can be beneficial.
