Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET): Conduct and Eligibility Criteria

Conduct of CTET:

Mode of Examination: The examination is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based).
Paper Pattern: CTET consists of two papers – Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is for candidates who intend to teach classes I to V, while Paper-II is for those aspiring to teach classes VI to VIII. Candidates can also choose to appear for both papers if they intend to teach all classes from I to VIII.
Duration: Each paper is of 2.5 hours duration.
Types of Questions: The questions in both papers are multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four alternatives out of which one answer will be correct.
Language Medium: CTET is conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bangla, Garo, Gujarati, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, and Urdu.
Scoring: There is no negative marking in CTET. Candidates are awarded one mark for every correct answer.
Qualifying Marks: To qualify CTET, candidates need to score at least 60% marks. However, there is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to reserved categories.

Eligibility Criteria:

For Paper-I (Classes I to V):
- Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks. They should also have passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)/ 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)/ 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- OR: Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
For Paper-II (Classes VI to VIII):
- Educational Qualification: Candidates should have completed Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
- OR: Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed)/ 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
Relaxation in Qualifications: Relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks is given to candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/Differently Abled.
Nationality: Candidates from India as well as candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet are eligible to apply for CTET.
Age Limit: There is no upper age limit to appear for CTET.
